Mission Statement

HOLY BOOKS is an Archive and a Collection dedicated to photobooks about Israel/Palestine. The idea behind the project is approaching the Israeli and the Palestinian Territory, known as well as the "Holy Land", through the eyes of photobooks by Israeli, Palestinian and International Photographers and Artists. The blog showcases book projects that deal with topics related to Israel/Palestine and that are geographically bound to the region. As the region is a major news topic with a very strong iconography - especially because of the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian Conflict - the wish behind this blog is to showcast the huge variety of photographic approaches that exist depicting the region. The focus on photobooks is due to the fact, that for photographers the book is an amazing medium by which they can transmit very personal approaches. The blog though relates to a very broad understanding of the term photobook, including photographic artist books, catalogues, monographies and travel books. HOLY BOOKS is a private Photobook Archive founded and curated by Felix Koltermann. The project was inspired by Ben Krewinkel's website Africa in the Photobook.
